Prior to the Exam
Review each exam document, including the Resource Booklet to assure there are no notes, computations, or answers marked on the documents.
If you find marks in the document, replace the documents with a clean copy. If adequate copies are not available please black out the marks prior to distributing to the examinee.
Review each candidate's letter of authorization from CPESC, Inc., stating they are eligible to sit for the exam.
If a candidate does not have a letter, they cannot sit for the exam. If they maintain they are eligible, CPESC, Inc. should be called at 828-655-1600 to verify their status before they proceed with the exam.
Make sure the examination room is set up with enough room for candidates to spread out to work the test. No more than 1 person should be seated at a 6 foot table.
Candidates are responsible to have their own calculators, straight edge, pencils and pens. Only calculators specified in the Calculator Policy are allowed in the exam room. CPESC, Inc. will provide scrap paper for their use.
Examinees are NOT allowed to bring cell phones, Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs), portable computers and similar devices into the exam room.
Read the instructions contained in the appropriate section of the exam to the candidates prior to starting. State to the examinees the time limit for each section.
During the Exam
No eating or drinking should be allowed in the examination room.
Health breaks are often necessary during the exam. Candidates may be excused on a one at a time basis. No materials are allowed to be carried out or brought back into the exam room during this time.
Parts of the exam are "closed book" while other parts are completed using the Resource Booklets provided. No outside notes, references, exam review books or other materials may be used by a candidate. The Proctor can respond to questions regarding exam language but should not interpret intent or meaning of stated exam questions.
If at any time during the exam, it is obvious a page or a chart was not included in one of the exam documents, the Proctor should copy a page from a complete document to correct the shortage. If all documents are missing a page or chart please contact CPESC, Inc. (828-655-1600) or Eric K. Berntsen, Technical Vice Chair (916) 341-5911 who can fax an appropriate copy for distribution.
The Proctor should notify all candidates when there are 10 minutes remaining in the exam session.
If a Proctor suspects a candidate or candidates of cheating, collusion or inappropriate communication during the examination, you should take appropriate action, such as separation, to remedy the problem. If inappropriate activity persists or blatant cheating is witnessed by the Proctor, allow the candidate to finish the exam. Once the exam session has been completed, notify CPESC, Inc. of the circumstances.

As each candidate completes each section of the exam, collect all scrap paper. At the conclusion of the exam collect all exam booklets, answer sheets and scrap paper.
